Autonomous maintenance

The autonomous maintenance (MA) is the maintenance performed by operators and consists of performing inspections, cleaning, lubrication and other operations with a low degree of difficulty. At the same time, it is a way to learn about how equipment works and how to highlight the signs of failure.

Operators involved in the application of autonomous maintenance must have 4 skills:

- detection of abnormalities

- correction and elimination of abnormalities

- setting the optimal conditions for the equipment

- maintaining optimal conditions for the equipment

The implementation of this type of maintenance is done in 7 steps:

1. Cleaning and inspection

2. Eliminate the sources of problems and inaccessible areas

3. Preparation of cleaning and lubrication standards

4. Carrying out general inspections

5. Carrying out autonomous inspections

6. Standardization through the visual management of the food place

7. Implementing autonomous equipment management.

Autonomous maintenance is one of the 8 pillars of the implementation of the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance).

The application of MA (self-maintenance) will lead to savings in the maintenance department, more efficient use of maintenance staff and the creation of its own pool for the selection of new maintenance staff within the organization, with the main effect of reducing training time.

If you haven't implemented self-maintenance yet, it's time to consider this opportunity and implement it. Positive results will appear soon - less money spent on maintenance, staff with an improved mentality and better prepared.
